Protein Lounge Creates the First Complete siRNA Database.

SAN DIEGO, CA, Jan. 7, 2004 – Protein Lounge, a leader is systems biology databases and bioinformatics tools, announces that they have developed the first complete database of siRNA targets.

The siRNA Database contains pregenerated siRNA targets against all known genes throughout a variety of organisms. Small Interfering RNAs (siRNA) are small double stranded RNA fragments, 21 nucleotides in length, which function by binding to mRNA of a complimentary sequence, then inducing cleavage of the mRNA.

This database should is expected to add a great deal of value to Protein Lounge, as this is the first database of it kind. There is a great need for such a database since many researchers are now using siRNA to ‘knock-down’ gene expression. Since targets against all known genes have been pregenerated in this database, researchers will save a great deal of time in their research, they can now simply search for their genes and get the siRNA targets. This is a necessary database for anyone working with gene expression analysis and high-throughput screening.

Protein Lounge Overview:
Protein Lounge is a leader in the field of system biology. We have developed many interactive web-based databases and software to help the life-scientists understand the complexity of systems biology. Systems biology efforts focus on understanding cellular networks, protein interactions involved in cell signaling, mechanisms of cell survival and apoptosis leading to development or identification of drug candidates against a variety of diseases. In the post-genomic era, one of the major concerns for life-science researchers is the organization of gene/protein data. Protein Lounge has met this concern by organizing all necessary data about genes/proteins into one portal.
